John is one of the most talented melodeon players active right now, as his many years with folk legends Bellowhead attest. His new project with ex-Steeleye Span fiddler Peter Knight toured through Oxford so I caught him for a chat and a couple of live acoustic performances. We talked through the folk scene, how to make a living as an artist, and the relevance of such traditional music in today’s globalised world.

Lilley Mitchell also joined me to present several of her favourite live acts over the past six weeks, and I (very graciously) bestowed upon her the honour of a bespoke jingle… or three. She then chose her ‘favourite’.
